Chapels in the Mountains

Disclaimer: I am a shoddy photographer. These pictures do not do the breathtaking natural scenery justice. And lucky for you guys, I did not include any pictures with my thumb in the blog.

This Wednesday we visited a local monastery. The monastery was dedicated to environmental issues and promotion of agriculture. After a short tour of where the nuns live, we hiked up and down mountains to see some chapels that were created in different caves. 

As empirically proven by Doctor Vamvakas random plant/tree quizzes, I guess you could say I am not a “nature person.” I don’t know much about plants and I hate bugs. In fact, I screamed when a huge grasshopper jumped out of Professor Vamvakas’ hand and at my face.

The scenery was breathtaking and so were the hikes to get into the caves. 

 We went up to four different chapels from the valley. Each one was dedicated to a different saint. The divine aspect was extremely powerful from the natural walls created in the mountains.

The last and highest climb had the 'best' view of the monastery, the city of Chania and the harbor. Those of us who made it up are in this picture.
